Today, the elderman responsible for economy and harbour, Kajsa Ollongren, accepted a letter calling for a fossil free Amsterdam. A diverse group of Amsterdam citizens, including university professors, entrepreneurs, and celebreties came together in order to urge the municipality of Amsterdam to stop investing in fossil fuels.
The reaction from Ollongren was postivie: “It is apparent that renewable energy is more future proof, in contrast to fossil fuels. I am going to read the letter with interest and acknowledge what this means for the city.”
Sven Jense, initiator of Amsterdam Fossil Free: “We are happy with this reaction, and look forward to the first concrete steps of the municipality. IN the meantime all Amsterdam citizens can express their support for a fossil free city by signing the petition.”
